(1 May 1827 - 8 March 1852) was a Norwegian painter. Cappelen was best known for his melancholic, dramatic and romantic landscape compositions. Hermann August Cappelen was born in Skien, Norway. He was the son of Diderik von Cappelen (1795-1866) and Margaret Noble Severine Henriette Løvenskiold (1796-1866). Both the Løvenskiold and Cappelen families were prominent Norwegian family of merchants, land owners, civil servants and politicians. His family were the owners of prominent iron works and various other properties. His grandfather, Diderik von Cappelen (1761-1828), was member of the Norwegian Constituent Assembly at Eidsvoll in 1814. He grew up at Holden, a manor in Ulefoss in the Grenland district of the county of Telemark. After school graduation in Skien in 1845, he went to Christiania to take another exam at the University of Oslo. He subsequently went to Dusseldorf, where he studied with Hans Gude. 1619-1676 . Dutch painter. He was half-brother to the bird painter Jacobus Victors (1640-1705) and the noted Delft potter Victor Victors (b 1638). About 150 oil paintings by Jan Victors, comprising portraits, genre scenes and historical subjects on both canvas and panel, have been catalogued. No signed or securely attributable drawing by him is known. Although his training is undocumented, Victors has long been considered a member of the school of Rembrandt in Amsterdam. His paintings of 1640-70 show many formal and thematic interrelationships with Rembrandt and his documented pupils of the 1630s
Morten Muller
(13 February 1828 - 10 February 1911) was a Norwegian landscape painter. Morten Muller was born in Holmestrand, in Vestfold County, Norway. Morten Miller began his art studies with Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude in Desseldorf, Germany from 1847 to 1848. From 1850 he was again a student at the Art Academy in Desseldorf, with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer as a teacher. From 1850-51, Muller painted with the Swedish landscape painter Marcus Larson in Stockholm. From 1866 to 1873, Morten Muller lived in Oslo, where he taught together with Knud Bergslien, first at the art school operated by Johan Fredrik Eckersberg. Later he continued working with Knud Bergslien at the Bergslien school of Art. From 1875, when Muller returned to Desseldorf, where he lived the rest of his life. Among his landscape motifs are fjords and pine forests. He is represented with several works in the National Gallery of Norway. In 1875, Morten Muller was appointed as a painter to the Swedish Royal Court. He was knighted into the Order of Vasa in 1869 and in 1874 became an honorary member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm.
